Principal's Message

August 2, 2011

It is a pleasure to welcome you to the 2011-2012 school year at Piscataquis Community Elementary School.  The weeks of summer seemed to fly by and it's hard to believe that we are at the start of another school year.

Our entire staff has been preparing for the arrival of students, and we are enthusiastic about beginning another year of teaching and learning.  Our curriculum is aligned to state learning standards and our teachers provide students with engaging lessons in all content areas with the goal of helping them attain the necessary skills and concepts at every level along the way.

In the present climate, where accountability and attainment of learning standards are stressed, we try to maintain a healthy balance between academics and the social and emotional needs of children.  We believe in the importance of knowing our students, and we realize that all students come to us with individual strengths and needs.  We accept children as they are and help them move forward to become engaged learners who take pride in their own accomplishments.

Although academic achievement is a major focus of our days at school, Maine's Guiding Principles play an important role in the education of our children.  Our dedicated staff members work tirelessly to provide children with positive experiences that help prepare them for successful lives in the 21st century.

Our school is very much a part of the community, and we welcome opportunities for sharing a variety of educational events with the public.  There are great things happening at Piscataquis Community Elementary School.  I am confident that 2011-2012 will be a successful year for our school community.

Sincerely,

Julie Orton
PCES Principal
