Alumni Mission and History

ALUMNI HISTORY & MISSION (2001)

The Alumni Committee will work with School Administrative District 4, and the local Historical Societies to provide information to all graduates of Guilford High School and Piscataquis Community High School. The committee will utilize the age of modern technology to inform and build the membership, collect annual dues, and encourage donations for Student Scholarship Programs.

ALUMNI HISTORY

The Guilford High School Alumni Association was originally formed in 1927. The first meeting of the organization was held on a Monday evening, in the Guilford High School Library. Since there was a large amount of interest by previous graduates, they decided to formally organize an Alumni Association. Although our archives are sketchy and incomplete, we have sufficient copies of letters, memorandums, and notes dating back to 1927 to provide our current Alumni membership with many details. In 1951, Guilford High School merged with other schools from nearby towns to form School Administrative District 4 (MSAD4). These were Abbot, Cambridge, Guilford, Parkman, Sangerville and Wellington. Some of these communities still celebrate separate alumni meetings. It was the intent of the original Guilford High School Alumni Association that any student who ever attended Guilford High School (or P.C.H.S.) back to its origination in 1883 be eligible for membership. They also determined that graduation was not a requirement for membership. Another major finding was that all teachers were automatically members by virtue of their office. One of the documents now in our possession indicates that a Constitution was created. We have no known document described as the original Constitution. The history of the Alumni from 1927 is unfortunately incomplete. Many of the documents will be posted on this site.
