CONTENT
STANDARD: DECISION MAKING AND GOAL SETTING
Students will learn how to set personal goals and make decisions that lead to better health. Knowledge of good health practices will not help students unless they have the foresight and discipline to act on that knowledge. The practical application of knowledge requires students to develop skills such as goal setting and decision making. Students who have the right combination of knowledge and skills can begin to contribute to their own good health, to healthy families, and to safer communities.

1. Review and extend prior learning
2. Explain when assistance is needed in making health-related decisions and setting health goals
3. Set a short-term personal health goal
4. Demonstrate the ability to apply a decision-making process to health issues and problems
5. Predict the results of positive health decisions

Grades 5-8 |
1. Review and extend prior learning
2. Demonstrate individual and collaborative decision-making processes to resolve health problems
3. Analyze how health-related decisions are influenced by individuals, families, and community values
4. Explain how decisions regarding health behaviors have consequences for himself/herself and others (adapted)
5. Describe how personal health goals are influenced by changing information, abilities, priorities, and responsibilities
6. Develop a plan to attain personal health goals by employing personal strengths and addressing needs and health risks

Grades 9-12 |
1 . Review and extend prior learning
2. Demonstrate various decision-making strategies that can be used to address behaviors which lead to trouble
3. Analyze health concerns that require collaborative decision making
4. Predict the immediate and long-term impact of health decisions on the individual, family, and community
