STANDARD: INFLUENCES ON HEALTH
Students will understand how media techniques, cultural perspectives, technology, peers, and family influence behaviors that affect health. Students receive an almost constant stream of information about their health and behavior. As a first step to making decisions that protect health, students need to recognize how different messages influence their actions.

1. Review and extend prior learning
2. Investigate the influence of cultural beliefs on health behaviors and the use of health services
3. Analyze how messages from media influence both health behaviors and the selection of health information, products, and services (e.g., eating disorders, teen magazines, acne products, dental care)
4. Analyze the effect of technology on personal and family health
5. Describe how school, family, and peers influence the health of adolescents
