We hope that you all had a wonderful vacation and are pleased to have your children back in the New Year.

SAD #4, along with all schools in the state, is moving toward using a standards-based system for reporting student progress. We are in the process of reporting achievement in a way we hope will give you more detailed and frequent updates on how your child is doing in school. As a result, you will see that your child's report card at the end of this quarter will look different. You will notice the following changes:

1.      In each core subject area, your child's overall academic progress will be reported as follows:

E = Exceeded Standards Assessed

M = Met Standards Assessed

T = Partially Meeting / Meeting Standards Assessed

P = Not Meeting / Partially Meeting Standards Assessed

D = Did Not Meet Standards Assessed

*Grade K's Report Card will stay as is for now

  1. Social and Personal Development is a new area that will tell you how your child is developing socially and emotionally for their age. Performance will be based on the following standards:

Respects Rights (people/property)

Listens Attentively/Follows Directions

Works Cooperatively

Completes Work

Accepts Responsibility

If you have any questions, please call Sara Alberts at 876-4590.

Ranks close on Jan. 17th.

Report cards go home Jan. 24th.

We would like to thank the MSAD #4 Teacher's Association for helping Santa give each child a book for Christmas.
Reading is a gift that lasts a lifetime!

We received this thank you from the Guilford United Methodist Church:

The Guilford United Methodist Church Food Cupboard now has a "full cupboard" thanks to your many donations of food. Your generosity will certainly make a difference for many families in our area.

McKusick School is looking for snowpants. If you have any snowpants that are too small for your children, please consider giving them to the kindergarten and first grade children at McKusick School. Thank you.

Attention parents, the lost and found box is overflowing in front of the office at McKusick School and Guilford Primary. We have jackets, mittens, hats, shirts, etc. If your child has misplaced something, please come in and check our lost and found box. It is located in front of the main office.

Please do not block the bus loading and unloading area during school hours. The buses have had difficulty reaching the area where they need to pick up and drop off students. This can be unsafe. Please park either beyond the building or in the parking lot. Also, please note the signs where no parking is permitted at any time.

Children need to bring sneakers to school on movement/PE days. Many children have had boots or slippers on for movement/PE lately and this can be dangerous. Please remember to send sneakers for your child. At the McKusick School, children in Mrs. Cookson's/Duncan's & Mrs. Kelly's/Miss Smith's classes have movement/PE on days 1 & 4; Mrs. Quimby's/Miss Connolly's & Miss Speed's classes have movement/PE on days 2 & 5 and Mrs. Herrick's & Mrs. Patten's classes have movement/PE on days 3 & 6. The dates for these days are listed in each newsletter.

Parkman Preschool News

Parkman Preschool currently has nineteen children enrolled in the program. They have a beautiful new building behind McKusick School. The children have been busy making their own Brown Bear Books based on Brown Bear, Brown Bear What do you See? by Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carle. They are also learning sign language, practicing counting, painting, cooking and doing many activities that are fun and help build early learning skills. They have only one opening at this time. They welcome you to visit their busy classroom.

Parkman Preschool is a collaboration of Penquis C.A.P. and SAD #4. For more information about the preschool program please contact Louise Ringle, Center Coordinator at 876-4450.

Mr. Brown would like to congratulate all the elementary students for a terrific concert on the 19th! The kids sounded wonderful and did a terrific job! Also, thank you to the parents for the support.
