Thank You!

Guilford United Methodist Church Food Cupboard wishes to thank you for your generosity in helping to fill their Food Cupboard shelves.  You made it possible for some people less fortunate to have a happy holiday.

Cold Weather

Students and parents need to be reminded that cold weather is here.  Students do go outside each day for recess and need to dress warmly (hats, mittens/gloves, jackets, ski pants, boots).  Our school policy states that:  Weather permitting, students participate in recess each day.  Decisions to have recess during cold weather depend upon the temperature and the wind chill factor.  Students should always dress for outside recess.  Only students with a medical excuse will be allowed to remain in the building during scheduled outside recesses.  Students well enough to attend school will benefit from a short period of time outside for fresh air and exercise.

Address and Phone Changes

If you have moved or changed your phone number, please contact Mrs. Speed at 876-4590 with your new information.  It is very important that we are able to reach you in case of an emergency.

HUGS Meeting

Because the HUGS meeting set for January 8th was postponed due to bad weather, the next meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 16th at 6:00 PM at the McKusick School in Parkman.

Transportation Changes

Due to many problems lately, we want to remind you that if your child is making any changes in how he/she is getting home we MUST have a note.  For safety reasons, we cannot take your child’s word on where they are supposed to go.  Neither can we call parents at home or at work when buses are waiting for them to board.  If your child has a CLC program after school, they must attend unless we receive a note from you in the morning.  We appreciate your help with this.

School Cancellations and Delays

When school is cancelled or delayed, please listen for the announcement on Q106.5 or 103.1 WDME. The local television stations will also carry the information.

Cut and Paste for Reading and Writing!

On January 18, 2007, parents of Kindergarten and First Grade Parents are invited to come to the McKusick School and help put together learning centers for our students.  The school will be open from 4 – 7 p.m. for the purpose of cutting, pasting, photocopying, and packaging important literacy center activities.  Please contact Shelly Snow, our Literacy Coach, at 876-2656 if you have anytime on that evening and want to take part.

Visitor Badges

If you are picking up your child early please stop by the office to notify them, also remember to sign them out. All visitors will be required to wear a visitor identification badge if going further into the school.

Health & Nutrition News:  GET MILK

Good News: Flavored milk gives your youngster the same nutrients and health benefits as white milk does.  And many children are more apt to drink milk when it tastes like strawberry or chocolate.  Whichever flavor your child likes, use milk that’s 1 percent or, better yet, fat-free.
