All Dads are welcome!
Both schools will be
selling carnations Wednesday, Feb. 14 for Valentine’s Day. Each carnation costs $1. The proceeds will be used for school
activities.
Please send your carnation
money to school in an envelope marked
with your child’s name and the number
of carnations you would like to buy.
If
you have moved or changed your phone number, please contact Mrs. Speed at 876-4590
with your new information. It is very
important that we are able to reach you in case of an emergency.
Lost and Found
Both schools
have a growing pile of lost and found.
Please come in anytime and check our lost and found boxes.
Please remember to send
your child’s lunch and milk money in each Monday in an envelope with your
child’s name on the front. We appreciate
your help with this.
The
next HUGS meeting is on Monday, Feb.

Due
to many problems lately, we want to remind you that if your child is making any
changes in how he/she is getting home we
MUST have a note. For safety
reasons, we can not take your
child’s word on where they are supposed to go.
Neither can we call parents at home or at work when buses are waiting
for them to board. If your child has a CLC program after school, they must attend unless
we receive a note from you in the morning.
We appreciate your help with this.
The Parkman Preschool is
accepting registration for the 2007-08 year.
Space in the program is limited to 20 children. Applications can be obtained from Louise Ringle, Center Coordinator by visiting the preschool or
calling 876-4450 or by letting your child’s teacher know that you would like an
application.
When
school is cancelled or delayed, please listen for the announcement on Q106.5
first. 103.1 WDME and the television
will also carry the information, but might not have the news as quickly. In
addition you can participate in the Emergency Calling System.
Emergency Calling System
SAD #4 tested
out the new emergency calling system on the 1/19 snow day. If you do not want to receive the snow day
calls at home, please contact the secretary at your child's school and ask to
be removed from the list. Your phone
number will still be kept in our all call system for emergency calls. If you did not receive a snow day
cancellation call on the morning of 1/19 and would like to be added to this
list, please contact the secretary at your child's school and ask to be
added. Or sign up online at: http://www.sad4.com/.
Sugar-Out Day 2007
Friday,
February 2, 2007 is Sugar-Out Day. We
are going to try to not eat sugar that day.
It is an event to help celebrate national Children’s Dental Health
Month. We would like to remind parents
that they can help their child’s smile last a lifetime. A balanced diet, limited snacks, daily
brushing and flossing and regular dental checkups are the key to a lifetime of
healthy teeth and gums.

Dental Sealant
Program Coming to SAD #4
Recently SAD
#4 received a grant from the Maine Bureau of Health, Oral Health Program, to
apply sealants FREE to all second graders.
Dental sealants are made of plastic material that is applied to the
chewing surfaces of back teeth to prevent cavities from forming in the
grooves. This will be done by a Dental
Hygienist who will come to the school.
Applying sealants will only take a few minutes away from the classroom.
All third
graders that had sealants applied last year will be rechecked by the Dental
Hygienist.

Fabulous
Fruits and Versatile Vegetables…..
You’ve
heard that “carrots are good for your eyesight”. That’s because carrots contain carotenoids
(beta-carotene, for example) that form vitamin A – a vitamin that helps keep
your eyes healthy. Broccoli, spinach,
pumpkin, winter squash, and sweet potatoes are also sources of carotenoids – so
are tomatoes, apricots, and cantaloupe.
In addition to your eyes, vitamin A is good for your skin and also helps
protect you against infections.
