Valentine Breakfast at Guilford Primary

Students at Guilford Primary School are looking forward to a Valentine’s Breakfast prepared by Dads on Tuesday, February 14th.  Valentines will be exchanged sometime during the day.

Teachers will send home class lists so that your child can give a valentine to each student in his/her class.  Please contact Jimmy Bell (876-4025) or Stephen Northup (876-9739) if you would like to volunteer to help with the breakfast.  Following are the times we need help:

Set-up:       Mon., Feb. 13       5:00 pm

Cooks:        Tues.., Feb. 14     6:00 am

Servers:     Tues., Feb. 14     7:30 am

All Dads are welcome!

Valentine Carnations

Both schools will be selling carnations Tuesday, Feb. 14 for Valentine’s Day.  Each carnation costs $1.  The proceeds will be used for school activities.

Please send your carnation money to school in an envelope marked with your child’s name and the number of carnations you would like to buy.

HUGS Meeting

The next HUGS meeting is on Monday, Feb. 27th at 6:30 at the Guilford Primary School.  Hope to see you there!

Transportation Changes

Due to many problems lately, we want to remind you that if your child is making any changes in how he/she is getting home we MUST have a note.  For safety reasons, we can not take your child’s word on where they are supposed to go.  Neither can we call parents at home or at work when buses are waiting for them to board.  If your child has a CLC program after school, they must attend unless we receive a note from you in the morning.  We appreciate your help with this.

Dental Health Presentation

We had a wonderful treat on Sugar Out Day.  Debbie Dellaire from Dr. Steinke’s office visited each class and taught us about taking care of our teeth.

Kindergarten Registration

If your child or if you know of a child that is going to be 5 years old by Oct. 15, 2006, he/she will be eligible to attend kindergarten in August 2006.  Registration will be April 14th.  Please call Mrs. Cleaves at 876-4590 for more information and an appointment.

Read Across America

March 2 – the birthday of Dr. Seuss – is the single day NEA (National Education Association) has chosen to spotlight the importance of encouraging children to develop a passion for reading.

Green Eggs and Ham at McKusick

On Thursday, March 2nd, McKusick School will be celebrating Dr. Seuss and the Read Across America Program.  One of the many special activities planned for the day is a Green Eggs and Ham breakfast served by our dads.  We also need some dads to read in the classrooms after breakfast.  If you are interested in helping, please let your child’s teacher know.

Mrs. Wright, our wonderful cook, needs a couple of volunteers to help clean up after the Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast. Please call her at 876-2656 if you can stay and help her out.  Thank you!

Snuggle Up with a Book at Guilford Primary

On March 2, come celebrate Read Across America in honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday.  That morning, students will enjoy a school breakfast of green eggs and ham as they listen to a Dr. Seuss favorite read by Mr. Stearns.  In the evening, please join us for “Snuggle Up With A Book” from 6-7 pm. Students need to bring an accompanying adult to share in the reading of books.  Bring pillows, pajamas, blankets and anything you need to feel comfortable.  Local storyteller, Dyan McCarthy-Clark, will entertain us with some tales.  We hope to see you there!

Parkman Preschool

The Parkman Preschool is accepting registration for the 2006-07 year.  Space in the program is limited to 20 children.  Applications can be obtained from Louise Ringle, Center Coordinator by visiting the preschool or calling 876-4450 or by letting your child’s teacher know that you would like an application.

HUGS Fundraiser

If you have any old cell phones lying around the house, please bring them to school and put them in the collection box.  HUGS will recycle the phones as a fund raiser.  Don’t forget to bring in your Box Tops for Education and Campbells Soup labels.  These fund raisers are ongoing and help us to bring programs like Chewonki and the Planetarium to our schools.  Thank you for your support!

School Cancellations and Delays

When school is cancelled or delayed, please listen for the announcement on Q106.5 first.  WDME and the television will also carry the information, but might not have the news as quickly.

Lost and Found

Both schools have a growing pile of lost and found.    Please come in anytime and check our lost and found boxes.
