Everyone at Guilford Primary had a nice time at
the Valentine’s Breakfast. We would like
to thank all the dads who helped to make this day special. A big thank you goes to Stephen Northup,
Steve Chapman, Allen Emerson, Warren Abbott, and all the other dads for
organizing the event. We couldn’t have wished for a better Valentine gift! Gifts from the heart are the most meaningful.

Read Across America Day was celebrated
this week. On Friday, March 2nd,
students had a nice breakfast of green eggs & ham. Paul Stearns, the superintendent of Sad # 4
came to GPS and read Green Eggs & Ham, a Dr. Seuss book to the students.
Then they enjoyed a visit from The Cat In The
Hat. On Friday, March 2nd MCK
students enjoyed a breakfast of Green Eggs & Ham and a visit from The Cat In The Hat. Several dads read to classes of students. Thanks to all who helped with this event.
Take the below quiz with your child(ren) and see who has the most knowledge about Dr. Seuss!
The answers are at end of newsletter.
1. What is the real name of Dr. Seuss?
2. What book was the first book that he wrote?
3. How many times was it rejected before he had it published?
4. What book came about because of a $50 bet to write a book using
50 simple words?
5. How many books did Dr. Seuss write before his death on Sep 24
1991 at the age of 87?
Many students and parents arrived at Guilford
Primary decked out in pajamas and toting blankets, pillows, and sleeping bags
to celebrate Read Across America on Thursday evening
March 1st. The program sought to connect
every child with a book. It was
heart-warming to stroll through the halls observing parents and children enjoying
a good book together. A special thank
you goes to our guest storyteller, Dyan
McCarthy-Clark. Dr. Seuss would be
pleased to know about all the activities, which took place nationwide in honor
of his birthday!
MEA Testing
All third graders will be taking part in the Third
Grade Maine Educational Assessment (MEA) starting Tuesday, March 6 through Wednesday,
March 14. All third grade students in
the state are taking this test. The MEA
assesses both reading and mathematics at this grade level. We have scheduled short periods of time each
morning for the assessments. All
assessments should be completed within five days. It is important that you make every effort to
have your child attend school during testing days. If your child misses school due to illness,
they will need to make up the missed sessions upon returning to school. It’s
always important to make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep, but it is
especially important during testing week.
Thank you for helping your child be successful!

Occasionally a family’s financial situation might
change during the school year. This
could be unexpected, or in some cases the result of seasonal changes. Parents are reminded that if for some reason
your financial situation changes, even for temporary circumstances, your child
may be eligible for free or reduced hot lunch.
Application forms are available through the school. Please call Mrs. Speed if you would like one.
Due to many problems lately, we want to remind you
that if your child is making any changes in how he/she is getting home we MUST have a note. For safety reasons, we cannot take your child’s word on where they are supposed to
go. Neither can we call parents at home
or at work when buses are waiting for them to board. If
your child has a CLC program after school, they must attend unless we receive a
note from you in the morning. We
appreciate your help with this.
Kindergarten Registration
If your child or if you know of a child that is going to be 5 years
old by Oct. 15, 2007, he/she will be eligible to attend kindergarten in August
2007. Registration will be March 19th Please call Mrs. Speed at 876-4590 for more
information and an appointment.
