It’s time for our
third annual Math Mania Night. Please
join us on Thursday, March 16 from 5 to 6 pm for Math Mania. See and explore the math games and materials
your child uses in our Everyday Math Program.
Each classroom will feature two centers to explore with your child. Children must be accompanied by at least one
adult. As a special bonus, the book fair
will also be open and we will award two door prizes to Math Mania participants.
Everyone at
Guilford Primary had a nice time at the Valentine’s Breakfast. We would like to thank all the dads who
helped to make this day special. A big
thank you goes to Stephen Northup and Jim Bell for
organizing the event. We couldn’t have
wished for a better valentine gift!
Gifts from the heart are the most meaningful.
A navy fleece
jacket with Mayo Regional Hospital EMS stitched on it was found in the multipurpose
room after the breakfast. To claim your
jacket, stop in the office at Guilford Primary.

Read Across
America Day was celebrated this past Thursday, March 2nd at GPS & MCK
schools. Paul Stearns, the superintendent of Sad # 4 came to GPS and read a Dr.
Seuss book to the students and then the students enjoyed a buddy read with
different classes. MCK students enjoyed a breakfast of Green Eggs & Ham and
then engaged in a buddy read with different classes. Thanks to all who helped
with this event. Take the below quiz with your child(ren) and see who has the most
knowledge about Dr. Seuss! The answers
are at end of newsletter.
1. What is the real name of Dr.
Seuss?
2. What book was the first book
that he wrote?
3. How many times was it
rejected before he had it published?
4. What book came about because
of a $50 bet to write a book using 50 simple words?
5. How many books did Dr. Seuss
write before his death on Sep 24 1991 at the age of 87?
Many students and
parents arrived at Guilford Primary decked out in pajamas and toting blankets,
pillows, and sleeping bags to celebrate Read Across
America on Thursday evening. The program
sought to connect every child with a book.
It was heart-warming to stroll through the halls observing parents and
children enjoying a good book together.
A special thank you goes to our guest storyteller, Dyan
McCarthy-Clark. Dr. Seuss would be
pleased to know about all the activities that took place nationwide in honor of
his birthday!
All third graders
will be taking part in the Third Grade Maine Educational Assessment (MEA)
starting Tuesday, March 7 through Wednesday, March 15. All third grade students in the state are
taking this test. The MEA assesses both
reading and mathematics at this grade level.
We have scheduled
short periods of time each morning for the assessments. All assessments should be completed within
five days. It is important that you make
every effort to have your child attend school during testing days. If your child misses school due to illness,
s/he will need to make up the missed sessions upon returning to school.
It’s always important to make sure your
child gets a good night’s sleep, but it is especially important during testing
week. Thank you for helping your child be successful!
The SAD #4
Transportation Department and the PCHS Drama class will be visiting both
schools with a Bus Safety Presentation.
Parents are welcome to attend.

Due to many
problems lately, we want to remind you that if your child is making any changes
in how he/she is getting home we MUST
have a note. For safety reasons, we can not take your child’s word on where
they are supposed to go. Neither can we
call parents at home or at work when buses are waiting for them to board. If
your child has a CLC program after school, they must attend unless we receive a
note from you in the morning. We
appreciate your help with this.
If your child or if you know of
a child that is going to be 5 years old by Oct. 15, 2006, he/she will be
eligible to attend kindergarten in August 2006.
Registration will be April 4th.
Please call Mrs. Cleaves at 876-4590 for more information and an
appointment.
The Parkman Preschool is accepting
registration for the 2006-07 year. Space
in the program is limited to 20 children.
Applications can be obtained from Louise Ringle,
Center Coordinator by visiting the preschool or calling 876-4450 or by letting
your child’s teacher know that you would like an application.
