Parents Are Teachers Too

The Parents Are Teachers, Too (PATT) program provides information, encouragement and support to first-time parents and teen parents in order to help them give their children the best possible start. The program offers home visits, parenting groups and access to educational materials and community resources. Parents choose their level of participation in the program based on their interests and needs, and may receive services until their child is five years old.

Information is provided to parents on:

*           Healthy prenatal practices
*           Labor and delivery
*           The process of falling in love with their baby
*           Infant care, feeding and nutrition
*           Health and safety issues
*           Child development
*           How to help their baby learn
*           Healthy parenting and self-care skills

Parents who live in Penobscot or Piscataquis County and are expecting or recently had their first baby (within the past three months) or are a pregnant or parenting teenager are invited to take part in the program. There is no cost to participate.

Family Resource Centers

Family Resource Centers are located at Penquis CAP offices in Bangor and Dover-Foxcroft. The centers have pamphlets, books and videos that provide information on parenting, programs for low-income families, resources for the elderly, child care provider information, child development and more. Internet access complements these more traditional resources, allowing people to acquire information on specific topics, locate services and download forms from the World Wide Web.
