n Open House

It was so nice to see so many students and their families here for the Open House.

n Fund Raising

The Box Tops for Education collection box is in the lobby of both schools.  Please send in all specially marked General Mills box tops with your children.  A list of qualifying products is being sent home and can also be found at www.boxtops4education.com.

The Hannaford Helps Schools Program has begun.  McKusick and Guilford Primary Schools are working together on this project, so please send any certificates you earn to either school.  Last year we earned $615!  Thank you for all of your support!

Emerald Recycling Program is an ink jet cartridge recycling fundraiser that goes all year long.  Our schools will receive $3.00 for each cartridge that we recycle.  The cartridges that they accept are Hewlett Packard, Lexmark, Cannon (BC01/02/05, BC20, BX3) and Compaq.  They do not accept Epson.  If you would like to donate your used cartridges, please send them to either school sealed in a plastic bag.  We appreciate your support!

n Fundraiser

The Meadow Farms Fundraiser orders are due on Tuesday, September 25th.  Please have all checks made payable to H.U.G.S. We appreciate all your help!

n Best Wishes

We are sad to say that Mrs. Kelly, one of our kindergarten teachers, has just submitted her resignation.  Her husband, Dave has taken a new position in Lusby, Maryland, and they will be moving in October.  Mrs. Kelly’s last day in the classroom will be October 19th and we are committed to making the transition to a new teacher as smooth as possible for the children.  Mrs. Kelly will be greatly missed after many years of dedicated teaching in our district.  We wish her and her family the very best as they set out on this new adventure.

n Book Order

Your child’s teacher may send home order forms for you to purchase books through book clubs at a discount.  When ordering books from the book orders, please make your checks payable to the book club (not to the teacher).  It is important to fill out each part of the order form-especially the bottom section reserved for the child’s name.  Please make sure that the order form and type of payment (cash or check) be returned to school by the date indicated on the order form.  It takes approximately two weeks to receive the books once the order has been sent in.  This is truly a wonderful way to expand your child’s library!

n Message From the Kitchens

Parents are again reminded to send their child to school each Monday with their lunch money in an envelope with their child’s name on it. Full price is $1.50, reduced is $.40 per day.  If your child would like an extra milk it is $.25 per day.

n Dismissals

Parents are to notify the school if someone else will be picking up your child at the end of the day.  All children being picked up must be signed out on the clip board.  At McKusick, the clipboard is outside the office and at Guilford Primary, it is on the table in the front hall.  Any bus changes must be made by 1:30. Please remember to never park in front of the schools.  This area is for busses only. Also your child will not be allowed to ride another bus without a note or a phone call.  If your child needs to ride another bus, please remember to send in a note.

n Lost and Found

Please label your child’s clothing.  Daily we have many lost and found items, which no one claims.  If your child has lost a piece of clothing, you are welcome to check out our Lost and Found box.

n Book Fair

Thank you to everyone who bought books at our book fairs. At GPS we had a profit of $122.84.  At McKusick we had a profit of $96.38. Profits will be used for enrichment programs for our students.

n Counselor’s Corner

Want to have your child become excited about learning? Try this: Instead of asking: “What did you learn in school today?” Begin the conversation by enthusiastically sharing with your child, something that you learned that day. If done regularly, it shouldn’t take long for your child to want to get in on the action. Excitement is contagious. If you show that you love to learn, there’s an excellent chance that your child will start showing it too.

We have had a lot of students that are not wearing sneakers for movement.  Please check the schedule for the week so you will know what days your child needs to wear their sneakers.

The Guilford Fire Department will give a presentation on October 1st at Guilford Primary School and on October 3rd at McKusick.
