Exxon Mobil Grant

Guilford Primary has received a $500 grant from the Exxon Mobil Educational Alliance program to support activities at our school.   Cindy Fortier and Scott Goodridge of Triangle Service Center in Guilford worked with school officials to secure the grant which is one of 4,000 available to schools across the country served by Exxon or Mobil stations.  The grants were made possible by funding from the Exxon Mobil Corporation.  Guilford Primary would like to thank Exxon Mobil and Triangle Service Center for supporting our school!

Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fairs were a success!  Sales totaled $1145.83 at Guilford Primary and $959.78 at McKusick.  We earned $343.75 at Guilford Primary and $383.92 in books at McKusick.  We would like to thank everyone for their support!

Fundraiser

The HUGS Fall Fundraiser has ended.  We want to thank everyone for participating!

Birthday Invitations

Please do not deliver invitations to birthday parties through the school system.  It causes undue confusion and hurt feelings when the invitations are given out in classrooms.  If you wish to invite children to your child’s birthday party, please mail the invitations yourself or invite the children by phone.  If you need addresses and phone numbers, please call Jennifer at 876-4590.

Attendance

Please remember that it is important that your child get to school on time.  Breakfast is served at both schools at 7:45.

Folders

Please remember to check your child’s school folder each evening and return it to school the next day.

Parking

Please remember that you must park in the parking lot not directly in front of the building in the morning and in the afternoon.  The buses need the space to safely transport the students.

Fund Raising

The Box Tops for Education collection box is in the lobby.  Please send in all specially marked General Mills box tops with your children.  A list of qualifying products has been sent home and can also be found at www.boxtops4education.com.

The Hannaford Helps Schools program has begun.  McKusick and Guilford Primary Schools are working together on this project, so please send any certificates you earn to either school.

The bottle for collecting the tabs off soda cans has arrived.  Please send your tabs to school to benefit the children at the Shriner’s Hospital.  Thank you for all of your support!

Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund

The cut off date for donations is Friday, Oct. 7. Each school has a collection container in the front hall.   We will then present the donations to the Red Cross.  Again, thank you for all of your support!

Message from the Kitchens

Parents are again reminded to send their child to school each Monday with their lunch money in an envelope with their child’s name on it.

Guilford Primary Pumpkin Patch Trip

Second graders had a great time today picking pumpkins at Stutzman Farms!  Third graders will be going on Oct. 7.  Please be sure to send in $1 to cover the price of the pumpkin.  We want to thank Stutzman Farms!

Halloween

On October 31st, both schools will be wearing black and orange. Seasonal activities will take place in the afternoon.

September is National Pediculosis (Head Lice) Month

Once again, it is that time for everyone to become knowledgeable about and alert to signs of head lice. The school nurse will check heads periodically and anytime that a teacher or a parent reports that a child is scratching his/her head.

Head lice travel from one child to another by head to head contact or sharing brushes, combs, hair clips or hats. They do not fly. They do not jump. They live on human heads and not animals.  A louse is difficult to see in the hair but an egg (nit) may be more easily detected. The eggs look like dandruff, but cannot be flicked off the hair.  Some eggs are brown; most are white.  Check your child’s head often throughout the school year. Encourage him/her to put winter hats into the sleeve of a jacket and not to share the hat.

Whenever the school nurse discovers a case, a letter will go home to parents to alert you and to ask for your assistance in checking the children’s heads.

The school nurse will discuss with you the steps necessary to eliminate this problem, should you discover it.

Thank you for your help.
