Oct. 22-GP            Grade 3       9:05 to 9:35

Oct. 24-McK          Grade K      8:30 to 9:00

Upcoming Lockdown Drill

A “lockdown” drill will be conducted in both elementary schools during the week of October 22.  While it is certainly hoped that we will never have to lockdown, we must be certain that we can do so quickly if we need to.  Prior to the day of the drill, teachers will prepare students for the event.  At the time of the drill, teachers and children will be informed that the lockdown is a drill so as not to cause unnecessary panic.  As parents/guardians you can help prepare children as well by talking to them about the reason for the lockdown.  Please contact the school if you have any questions or concerns about the upcoming “lockdown” drill.

Picture Retakes

Guilford Primary School-October 29th

McKusick-November 2nd

Students who were absent will need to bring in their picture form if they plan on ordering pictures.  Students having a retake need to return their complete package to the photographer.  If you need another picture form, please contact your child’s teacher.

Attendance

Please remember that it is important that your child gets to school on time.  Breakfast is served at both schools at 7:45. Also, please remember to call school if your child will not be attending.  Students should not be arriving at school until after 7:30.

Halloween

On Oct. 31st, both schools will be wearing black and orange.  Seasonal activities will take place in the afternoon.

Holiday Concert

The elementary holiday concert will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 6:30 pm in the PCHS gym.  Please mark your calendar.  If the concert is canceled due to bad weather, it is rescheduled for Thursday, December 6th.  Same time and location.

The Oral Health Program

The fluoride rinse program has started for children in grades K-5 and a free dental screening and sealant program will be offered again this year. If you have a child in second grade, you will receive information about sealants.  Your child can receive free sealants to protect those back molars from developing cavities.  We are very pleased to be able to offer this program, through the help of a state grant.  Please continue to do your part to protect your children’s teeth by having them brush twice a day and limiting the number of times a day that they eat a sugary/starchy food or drink.

Communication Folder

Please remember to check your child’s school folder each evening and return it to school the next day.

Five Ways that Help Parent a Successful Student

- Every day tell your child something new and/or exciting that you did. (Refer to the previous newsletter.)

- Every week have your child teach you something new that they learned in school.

- Show the same amount of love for your child regardless of their success in school.

- When your child does well in school show excitement. When your child has trouble in school show empathy rather than anger.

- Look at the right answers more than the wrong ones.
