The K-3 Holiday concert will be December 19 in the PCHS gym from 5:30 to 6:30. Please have your child at PCHS at 5:15. Please note the change in location. It would be helpful if you took your child's coat before he/she joins their class.

During the month of December, Guilford Primary students are encouraged to design and create a Christmas ornament at home to help decorate our hallway tree. Ornaments may be brought to school anytime.

This year there will be no gift exchange among students. Instead, we are asking any child who wishes to bring in a non-perishable food item to be placed under the tree in our front halls. The food items will be distributed to needy families in our area by our local Food Cupboard.

Following are some suggestions: canned vegetables (especially carrots, green beans, and corn), canned fruit, spaghetti sauce, pasta variations, tuna fish, canned milk, cereal, oatmeal, peanut butter, jelly, Dinty Moore beef stew, canned soups, ravioli, canned beans, and jello.

American Education Week was November 18-22. On Friday, all staff members from McKusick and Guilford Primary enjoyed muffins and coffee from the HUGS group. What a wonderful way to start the day! A special thank you goes to Gloria Grant of the Sangerville Village Restaurant and KC's Country Store for those delicious muffins, and to Robinson's Mobil Mart for donating the coffee.

In the spirit of giving, Guilford Primary students have been participating in Scholastic Book Clubs "Classrooms Care Reading is Giving" program. Scholastic Book Clubs offered to donate 100 books to needy children for any class reading 100 books by Dec. 6. Over the last 8 weeks, second graders read 567 books and third graders read 484 books! They kept track of the books by using a tally chart. Each class read at least 100 books, so the Scholastic Book Club will donate 600 books due to our efforts in reading. What a wonderful way for children to share their love of reading and help needy children at the same time. Scholastic Book Clubs will donate up to one million books this year!

On Dec. 19, there will be a dress rehearsal for the concert at PCHS in the afternoon. The children will be bussed to PCHS and return to their schools for dismissal at the regular time.

Please remember that Friday, December 20 is an Early Release Day.

McKusick School - December 20 is also Funny Feet Day!

The Backwoods Candle orders are in.

The Guilford Primary T-shirt and sweatshirt order has arrived. Your child's shirt will be sent home soon.

Parents can now check school cancellations online at http://www.starfall.com and on Storm Watch at http://www.wabi-tv.com.

Room mothers will be contacting parents who signed the volunteer sheet to help with food for the holiday celebrations.

The next HUGS meeting will be held at Guilford Primary School on December 11th at 6:30. For our new parents, HUGS is our parent group. We would love to have you join our group!

Students have the opportunity to help the PCHS National Honor Society and the Key Club with gifts for needy children. Following are suggested items: art and drawing supplies, crayons, coloring books, board games, and books. A collection box designated for the items is located by our Christmas tree in the front hall. Please send items in unwrapped. Items will be picked up on Friday, December 13th.

Kindergarten Supplies

Your child(ren) have been hard at work and have used up their crayons. All kindergarten students need to bring a new box of 16 to 24 crayons to school after the holiday vacation. This might be a great idea for a holiday gift!

The McKusick School is looking for ski pants. If you have any ski pants that are too small for anyone in your family, we ask that you send them to the McKusick School. Just sizes for children in grades K or 1 please. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
