Please Dress Warmly

Cold weather is here!  Please make sure to send your child with warm coats, hats, mittens and boots.  Remember that students are expected to wear boots outside during the winter months and must have different footwear for inside the school.

HUGS Meeting

The next HUGS meeting is on Monday, Dec.11th at 6:00 at the

Guilford Primary School.  Hope to see you there!

Early Release Day

Just a reminder that December 22nd is an early release day.

Christmas Concert

We want to thank everyone for coming to the Christmas Concert.  What a wonderful way to start the holiday season!

Milk Money

Please remember that if your child wants a milk with cold lunch the price is 25 cents per day for all students no matter if they qualify for free or reduced.  25 cents a day equals $1.25 per week.

Giving Tree

This year there will be no gift exchange among students.  Instead, we are asking any child who wishes to bring in a non-perishable food item to place it under the tree in our front halls.  The food items will be distributed to needy families in our area by our local Food Cupboard.

Following are some suggestions:  canned vegetables (especially carrots,

green beans, and corn), canned fruit, spaghetti sauce, pasta variations, tuna fish, canned milk, cereal, oatmeal, peanut butter, jelly, Dinty Moore beef stew, canned soups, ravioli, canned beans, and jello.

“Words for Thirds” Program

Third graders were very pleased to receive dictionaries from the local granges through the Dictionary Project:  Words for Thirds.  Walter Boomsma, Bob Carroll(Valley Grange 144),and Henry & Carol Flagg (South Sangerville Grange) presented the dictionaries to the students on Wednesday, Dec 6th .  Both students and teachers were appreciative of this wonderful opportunity made possible by our local granges.

SUPPER WITH A SIDE OF READING

The Supper With A Side Of Reading program has now been running for the last 3 months. The program runs for one hour one Wednesday evening each month from 6:00-7:00 p.m. During this time a meal is shared. Then parents learn reading techniques with our school’s literacy specialist, while the children work on reading activities with the librarian.  At the end of the program, families get to choose a tote bag of themed books to borrow for the month.  This program is free and open to the entire family. At this time we have 8 openings at the Guilford Primary School. Please contact Mrs. Violette at 876-4590 if you are interested in signing up your family for this program or send in the bottom half of the flyer, which was sent home with your child.  Your family will receive a written notice upon enrollment in the program.

Cut and Paste for Reading and Writing!

On January 18, 2007, parents of Kindergarten and First Grade Parents are invited to come to the McKusick School and help put together learning centers for our students.  The school will be open from 4 – 7 p.m. for the purpose of cutting, pasting, photocopying, and packaging important literacy center activities.  Please contact Shelly Snow, our Literacy Coach, at 876-2656 if you have anytime on that evening and want to take part.

Center Theater Show

On Friday, December 15th the 2nd and 3rd graders will be going to the Center Theater in Dover-Foxcroft to see A Christmas Carol.  A big thank you to HUGS for sponsoring the event.
