Guilford Primary & McKusick School Newsletter

Citizenship Reports

Citizenship reports should be coming out the end of this month at both schools.  A rubric (scoring guide) will come with it explaining your child's score.  The report is yours to keep, but please sign the envelope and send it back to school.

Transportation Changes

If your child is making a transportation change, we need a note.  Please do not send your child in with a verbal message.  Due to misunderstandings, we can no longer accept verbal messages from children.  Thank you!

Mid-Winter Wellness Challenge

MSAD #4 is challenging students to improve their health by becoming more active on a daily basis.  Starting Jan. 12 and ending Feb. 6, each school will be keeping track of the amount of physical activity students participate in.  A Wellness Log will be sent home each Monday to record activity.  It should be returned the following Monday signed by the student and parent/guardian.  When the students show improved performance, there will be a special healthy event.  Please encourage your child to be active!

Lunch Money at McKusick

This is a reminder that lunch money should be sent in on the first day of the week.  You may pay for just that week, bimonthly, or monthly.  Please put the lunch money in an envelope labeled with the amount enclosed and your child's first and last name because we have many children with the same first name.

Calendar Correction for McKusick School

The McKusick School will be celebrating Dr. Suess and the Read across America program on Tuesday, March 2nd.  More information will follow as the date approaches.

Student Teacher

We would like to welcome Samantha Howard to the Guilford Primary School.  Samantha is doing her student teaching in Mrs. Gokas' room.  She is a senior at the University of Maine in Orono.  Samantha lives in Dexter with her husband Brian.  She loves animals and has three cats.  She also enjoys reading and going for walks.

Thank you

Guilford United Methodist Church Food Cupboard wishes to thank you for your generosity in helping to fill our Food Cupboard shelves.  You made it possible for some people less fortunate to have a happy holiday.

Cold Weather

Students and parents need to be reminded that cold weather is here.  Students do go outside each day for recess and need to dress warmly(hats, mittens/gloves, jackets, ski pants, boots).  Our school policy states that:  Weather permitting, students participate in recess each day.  Decisions to have recess during cold weather depend upon the temperature and the wind chill factor.  Students should always dress for outside recess.  Only students with a medical excuse will be allowed to remain in the building during scheduled outside recesses.  Students well enough to attend school will benefit from a short period of time outside for fresh air and exercise.

Fundraisers

By collecting Box Tops for Education, we have raised $150 as of Oct. 2003.  Another bunch will be sent in soon.  Please keep sending them to school. We also raised $124 by saving the Hannaford Helps Schools certificates.

Thank you for your support with these two projects!
