Valentine Breakfast at Guilford Primary

Students at Guilford Primary School are looking forward to a Valentine’s Breakfast prepared by Dads on Monday, February 14th.  Valentines will be exchanged sometime during the day.  Teachers will send home class lists so that your child can give a valentine to each student in his/her class.  Please contact Jimmy Bell (876-4025) or Stephen Northup (876-9739) if you would like to volunteer to help with the breakfast.  Following are the times we need help:

Set-up:       Sun., Feb. 13           4:00 pm

Cooks:         Mon., Feb. 14         6:00 am

Servers:     Mon., Feb. 14          7:30 am

Valentine Carnations

The Guilford Primary School will be selling red carnations and the McKusick School will be selling pink carnations on Friday, Feb. 11 and Monday, Feb. 14, for Valentine’s Day.  Each carnation costs $1.  The proceeds will be used for school activities.  Please send your carnation money to school in an envelope marked with your child’s name and the number of carnations you would like to buy.

 

Parkman Preschool

The Parkman Preschool is accepting registration for the 2005-06 year.  Space in the program is limited to 20 children.  Applications can be obtained from Louise Ringle, Center Coordinator by visiting the preschool or calling 876-4450 or by letting your child’s teacher know that you would like an application.

 

Bus Drivers Needed

Do you love children?  Are you looking for a part time position that will put a smile on your face?? SAD #4 is looking for bus drivers.  All of the buses are automatic and easy to drive. This is a great way to earn a little extra income and still have the same work and vacation schedule as your child.  Training is available.   Please contact Mr. Cotta at 876-4035 for more information.

Remember that 15 minutes = 1 mile

Guilford Primary started in Guilford and went to Buffalo, NY the first week and then on to Atlanta, Georgia the second week.  They visited their first state park-The Great Smokey Mountain State Park in Tennessee.   McKusick started where they left off in November in Lincoln, Nebraska.  From there they went to Oklahoma City to Little Rock to Jackson to Baton Rouge and ended in Austin, Texas.

 

As part of our Mid-winter Wellness Challenge, we will be going sliding on Haley’s Hill in Sangerville.

Sleds (NO snowboards please) marked with your child’s name in permanent marker may be brought to school by parents.  Please remember to pick your child’s sled up at the end of the day.

 

Parking

 

Please remember that you must park in the parking lot in the morning and in the afternoon.  The buses need the space to safely transport the students.  At McKusick, please do not pick your child up before 2:30.  There is not enough room for parents and the buses.  Thank you for your help with this problem!

 

Target Gives To Education

 

Target Gives to Education is a program for people that have Target credit cards.  Each time you use your Target credit card, 1% is given to the school of your choice.  It is easy to sign up for this program-

  2. click on the Community link
  3. click on Take Charge of Education

When school is cancelled or delayed, please listen for the announcement on Q106.5 first.  WDME and the television will also carry the information, but might not have the news as quickly.

Free Nutrition Education Programs

Nutrition Education Programs are FREE and offered throughout Piscataquis County.  Nutrition education staff provides programming to individuals, families and communities to help them make informed choices about food, to promote healthy lifestyles, and to support economic and social well being. Using research-based information and resources, faculty and staff help Mainers make behavior changes by: making environmental and policy changes to encourage healthy diets; promoting eating well at all life stages; managing issues of the elderly; and addressing problems of hunger and food security.

 

Workshops, programs and community interventions are available to Maine-based groups on a variety of topics. Educational materials, catalog listings of federally supported materials (including information on school-age nutrition, dietary recommendations and food labeling) as well as an extensive audio visual library are also available.

 

EFNEP/Eat Well: Nutrition lessons offered in the home or school site for individuals and groups of adults and children.

 

Learn-By-Mail: "Ten steps to good nutrition", lessons are mailed to your home. Continuing education credits are awarded for this program.

 

Summer Fun Shops: Games, Fun, Crafts and Food for your child at these one-day nutrition events held across the county.

 

Born-To-Read: Free books, for families with children under 5 years, and information to help you and your baby explore the world of books.
