Open House

It was so nice to see so many students and their families here for the Open House.

Fund Raising

The Box Tops for Education collection box is in the lobby.  Please send in all specially marked General Mills box tops with your children.  A list of qualifying products is being sent home and can also be found at www.boxtops4education.com.

The Hannaford Helps Schools program has begun.  McKusick and Guilford Primary Schools are working together on this project, so please send any certificates you earn to either school.  Last year we earned $615!  Thank you for all of your support!

The HUGS Fall Fundraiser has been sent home.  A letter is enclosed explaining this fundraiser which is sponsored by our parent group.  If you have any questions, please contact Michelle Patterson at 876-2053.  The fundraiser ends Sept. 20.  Please make checks out to HUGS.  A big thank you to Michelle for chairing this fundraiser!

Emerald Recycling Program is an ink jet cartridge recycling fundraiser that goes all year long.  Our schools will receive $3.00 for each cartridge that we recycle.  The cartridges that they accept are Hewlett Packard, Lexmark, Cannon (BC01/02/05, BC20, BX3) and Compaq.  They do not accept Epson.  If you would like to donate your used cartridges, please send them to either school sealed in a plastic bag.  We appreciate your support!

Book Orders

Your child’s teacher may send home order forms for you to purchase books through book clubs at a discount.  When ordering books from the book orders, please make your checks payable to the book club (not to the teacher).  It is important to fill out each part of the order form-especially the bottom section reserved for the child’s name.  Please make sure that the order form and type of payment (cash or check) be returned to school by the date indicated on the order form.  It takes approximately two weeks to receive the books once the order has been sent in.  It is truly a wonderful way to expand your child’s library!

Art Show

Some of our student’s art is being shown at the K-6 Visual Art Show at the Dept. of Education in Augusta.  The show will run through Oct. 21.  Please stop in if you are in the area and enjoy the show!

Reading Rumpus

On Saturday, Sept. 17 in downtown Gardiner there will be an exciting event called the Reading Rumpus: Maine Children’s Book Festival.  It will begin with a parade featuring Donn Fendler of Lost on a Mountain in Maine fame.  From 10-3, there will be presentations by a dozen Maine children’s book authors and illustrators.  At 4 and 7, there will be readers theater performances by Open Book Players (reservations strongly suggested).  There will be many more activities for the entire family.  The day is free except for the theater performances ($5 per person).  For more details visit the website at www.readingrumpus.org

SEPTEMBER IS LIBRARY CARD SIGNUP MONTH

The Guilford Memorial Library, in conjunction with McKusick Elementary School, is holding a library card sign up program for our Kindergarten students. This is a free program. A permission slip was sent home with students this week.  All students of SAD 4 are eligible for a free library card at Guilford Memorial Library. Why not sign up your student now?

Message from the Kitchens

Parents are again reminded to send their child to school each Monday with their lunch money in an envelope with their child’s name on it.

Dismissals

Parents are to notify the school if someone else will be picking up your child at the end of the day.  All children being picked up must be signed out on the clip board.  At McKusick, the clipboard is outside the office and at Guilford Primary, it is either in the office or on the table in the front hall.  Any bus changes must be made by 1:15.  Please remember to never park in front of the schools.  This area is for busses only.

Hurricane Katrina Relief

The students at Guilford Primary and McKusick have the opportunity to help Hurricane Katrina victims. A jar has been placed in the front halls at each school.  All money collected will be donated to our local Red Cross.  Checks are payable to the American Red Cross.  Even spare change would be appreciated.  Thank you for your support!

Lost and Found

Please label your child’s clothing.  Daily we have many lost and found items, which no one claims.  If your child has lost a piece of clothing, you are welcome to check out our Lost and Found box.
