v Parents, please help your child determine if he/she is carrying unnecessary things back and forth to school. For example, a pair of shoes can be left in the locker for daytime wear as long as they are not needed at home. Many children have “prized possessions” in/on their backpacks that take up a lot of space and should not be brought to school. (Refer to the Student Handbook page 10). Students’ lockers can hold their winter clothing and backpacks, but not a lot of extra stuff.
v Mike W, Cory G, and Becky B were the leaders of the Multiplication Marathon this week. Students are making good progress learning how to divide. They’re also enjoying learning about the coordinate system of ordered number pairs and measuring angles.
v In social studies classes students have been divided into Native American tribes of Maine. They will work in these groups to research how their tribes met their basic needs.
v In science students are studying how the earth continuously is changing due to natural phenomena such as mudslides, volcanoes, and tsunamis.
v Reminder---January 17 is Martin Luther King Day. There will be no school. January 21 is an early release day.
v Looking ahead—We will be having Valentine exchanges February 14.
