Grade 4 Newsletter

10 March 2006

MEA’s:  We are about half way through with the testing.  We are very please with the effort the students have been showing.  Please encourage them to continue.  Students will need lots of sleep and good breakfasts to keep them going!

SOCIAL STUDIES:  Students are beginning to investigate famous Maine people and important events in Maine history.

MATH: We will be moving into percents in the coming weeks.

SCIENCE: We will be working with light and sound energy unit, as well as reviewing for the MEA’s.

ART:  Students are working on mobiles in art. The students need at least 8 pictures from magazines, catalogs, photographs, postcards, calendars for their project, and dedicated to a theme of their choice: endangered animals, family, outdoor activities, etc.  Students can elect to draw all 12 of their pictures, but they need only draw 4 if they choose.

SECURITY: For the security of the students, parents are asked to check-in with the office when entering the building.  The teachers will be notified on what will happen (for example, you come in, check in the office, Mrs. Savage or Mrs. Jones will call us and ask for the student to come down, or that you are coming up to see us).  We have had to tighten up security lately.  Thanks for your support.

HEADS UP:  March 17th is a whole day teacher workshop day.  No school for students.

Student Led Conferences:  Your child will be bringing home a pink conference slip for you to review.  Appointment slips will be coming home soon.

Spelling Bee:  4th and 5th grade spelling bee will be held on
Tuesday, March 14th at 1:00pm.  All welcome!
