Grade 4 Newsletter

31 August 2007

v     Welcome to the first of our weekly newsletters. Please look for them each Friday along with your child’s individual weekly report and any papers.

v     We’ve gotten off to a great start at PCMS this week. Our new principal, Ms. Rebar, held an assembly for us to explain our CHARACTER profile on Tuesday. Ask your child if he/she can remember what each letter of CHARACTER stands for.

v     For those of you new to the district, be sure to check out the website www.sad4.com for lots of useful information about our school. You can also find out about how to access your child’s grades using our online Power School grading system.

v     You may contact any of us anytime by email at bpost@sad4.com, ehaley@sad4.com, bsmith@sad4.com, or other teachers by using first initial, last name followed by @sad4.com. You can call 876-4301 and leave a voicemail message as well.

v     Please help your child remember his/her library and phys ed days, and be sure library books and PE clothes are packed in the bookbag.

o       LIBRARY: Mrs. Post’s room Monday and Thursday

Mrs. Smith’s room Wednesday and Friday

Mrs. Haley’s room Monday and Wednesday

PHYS ED: Mrs. Post’s room Monday and Thursday

Mrs. Smith’s room Monday and Thursday

Mrs. Haley’s room Tuesday and Friday

v     Your child’s assignment book needs to be signed by a parent or caregiver each night on the last line for that day. Your child can show you where if you’ve not already begun doing that. Your signature indicates you have seen what he/she is responsible for and have helped ensure it is complete. Some work may have been completed and passed in already that day. If so, your child should have checked the “done” box beside it.

v     In language arts classes we will spend about six weeks reading books and stories related to the theme “It’s Cool! It’s School!”

v     Math classes are working on geometry and addition and subtraction facts. Students took home a family letter explaining the unit and our goals for the unit earlier this week.

v     Social studies classes are being introduced to Maine Studies. Please be sure your child has a white binder for his/her Maine notebook.

v     Science classes have begun learning about food chains.
