Grade 4 Newsletter

9 September 2005

§       ART NEWS: We reviewed rules, procedures, expectations, grading, and behavior.  We began our rocket project.  This project involves the combining of different media, and also introduces the students to informal bas relief sculpture.  The students should be finding and pressing leaves and flowers for a color theory project that we will do in a couple/few weeks. Also bring a Styrofoam tray ASAP.

§       Fourth grade will be doing a community service project from September 12-23. To aid in the relief effort for Katrina victims, we will be collecting coins in each homeroom. Students may make their donations at homeroom time each day. The money we collect will be sent to the Red Cross, and those students who donate will be recognized for helping others at our first HERO trimester assembly.

§       Our annual school-wide fundraiser is underway. The magazine drive is the major source of funds used for field trips and special events at each grade level.  Please participate if possible. There are three more turn-in dates: Sept. 12, 16, and 19. Students are excited about the prizes they can win!

§       Science classes are starting pond communities and learning to use microscopes to observe water samples.

§       In social studies students will be having their first trivia assignment on Maine geography next week. Parents, please take time to look this over with your child.

§       Math classes will be having their first math assessment next week. Each child was given a paper with a list of the goals for this test on Tuesday of this week. Please review it to be sure your child is prepared. Reminder: if you have received the math emails, please send me a reply so I know I have your address correctly. (Just reply once, not daily.)

§       Want to help your child improve in writing? Start writing daily messages to him/her. Put short notes in the lunchbox, on the bed pillow, in the cereal bowl, on the bathroom mirror, etc. Keep a supply of notepaper handy so he/she can write back to you!
