HOT LUNCH PROGRAM: Our hot lunch program has made several changes this year to improve the nutritional value of its meals. The milk served to students has no artificial growth hormone, and many sandwich options are now made with whole wheat bread. Check it out!

READING: Our new theme is Earth Patrol: Preserve and Protect. Its focus is on protecting our environment from pollution and other manmade dangers. As you read newspapers, magazines, or watch news events, discuss articles with your family related to the topic. Kids have a lot to say about it. After all, they are going to be here longer than we adults are!

SCIENCE: Conservation is the topic of our next unit. It will tie in with the reading theme as we take a scientific look at how to best use our planet’s resources.

SOCIAL STUDIES: Classes are enjoying the book Lost on a Mountain in Maine by Donn Fendler that Mrs. Smith is reading to them. It’s a true story of a young boy who was lost for several days on Mount Katahdin. Classes are relating his experiences to our HERO concept.

MATHEMATICS: On Tuesday of this week students brought home 4 sheets of fact triangles to cut apart and use at home to practice those facts daily. To be successful in mathematics, students show know basic facts as well as they know how to spell their own name. Please help your child practice to achieve this level of knowledge.

VACATION: Enjoy a wonderful fall break this next week!
