Construction Has Begun – Students in Mr. Savage’s homeroom have begun constructing toothpick bridges. They will use math skills, drawing skills, design, planning, and most importantly, cooperation in putting a bridge together. All bridges will be weight-tested when they are completed. The construction company whose bridge carries the greatest weight and fulfills the criteria for design and funding will be declared the winner.

The NCLBA testing – Eighth grade and fourth grade students are finishing MEA testing at this time. At the end of the month grades 5, 6, and 7 will attempt the first No Child Left Behind Annual Assessment (NCLB-AA). The test is designed to measure math and reading skills. The test will take about one hour.

Students-Led Conferences – The next round of student-led conferences are scheduled for April 4th and 5th. They will be conducted upstairs in the classrooms, which will allow students to feel more comfortable, and classroom materials will be more available for parents to observe. Monday’s time frame is 4:30 to 8:00, and Tuesday’s is 3:30 to 6:00. This is a great way for parents to see the growth their child has made since the last conference in the fall. Watch for the appointment forms in the near future.

Computers and Our Students - The Internet is a valuable tool and resource for students of all ages. However, there are Internet users out there that are less than 'honorable' in their use and intent. As an educational community it is important that we provide not only the resources, but also the information to protect our most valued and prized resource, which is our youth. For that reason, we recommend that all parents and guardians take the time to review what their son/daughter is doing on the Internet. Please visit the following web site to learn about Internet Safety for your family.

Dime ChallengeSixth Grade students have completed the dime-challenge in support of their trip to Quebec City. A total of $83.16 was raised. This is almost exactly the amount raised last year (a few pennies more).
