HEALTH - Students can now identify all of the major bones in the Skeletal System in a movement sequence set to music. They have enjoyed learning the bones in an active way. They will be assessed next week so please set aside some time to review these vocabulary terms with them. Their skeletal models are also displayed in the health room for you to enjoy during parent conferences this month.
STUDENT-LED CONFERENCES – If parents have not yet signed up for conferences, scheduled for November 13th and 15th, they still may do so. Return the form that came with the mid-term report or ask your child to pick up a new form from Mr. AndrewsÕ office.
SOCIAL STUDIES – Students should have their notebooks at home this weekend to study for the Mesopotamia Test. ItÕ s okay if parents want to do oral quizzes just for the fun of it. The ÒFertile CrescentÓ map is very important.
TURKEYS AND DIMES – What do these have to do with each other? Each year the three 6th grade homerooms try to outdo each other in collecting dimes. What does that have to do with anything? Well, the dimes are all totaled, sent to the bank for paper money, and that is given to a local church to buy a thanksgiving turkey (or several) for families in need. Students need not empty their piggy banks to make a big difference for someone.
SURVIVAL – No, itÕs not the TV show. Reading classes will be taking the unit theme test for ÒSurvivalÓ soon. These unit tests help determine the studentsÕ ability to comprehend and their understanding of grammar usage.
PARENT TIP – Each of the 6th grade teachers helps students order books from the Scholastic Book Club. This is a convenient way for them to acquire inexpensive but up-to-date books. Parents do not need to feel obligated when order forms come home. Review the book list with your child and YOU determine what is needed and appropriate for them.
