8th Grade Newsletter

                      Week of 9/7/04

                         Welcome Back

September 3, 2004.......Here we are; finally in the 8th grade with only 10 months to pull it all together for high school.

Open House - PCMS Gymnasium - Tuesday, Sept. 7th, 7 - 8 pm.  We’d love to meet you all!  See you there.

If you haven’t already heard, the 8th grade has grown considerably with the addition of many new students.  86 children in three groups make for crowded classrooms and the need for very responsible behavior.  Please discuss this with your child.  Classes need to be quiet and on task in order to learn all the new material being presented his year; and the Local Assessment System involves “high stakes testing” with results that will affect your child’s future.  Students who disrupt classes will be warned, conferenced with, and then removed immediately from any class they are disturbing, sent to the office and expected to make up the time lost after school the next day.

Students who are not completing homework on time or have been removed from class will be we expected to attend a one hour session after school the next day from 3-4pm to complete the work or make up the time lost when removed from class.

Students who wish to stay after school for extra help may attend Homework Club in the library each afternoon (Mon. - Thurs.) from 3 - 4:30pm. or stay with the Extended Day teacher (Mon. - Thurs.) from 3 - 4pm.

Please make sure your child comes to school each day with all materials necessary to do well:  pencils, pens, notebooks, textbooks, daily homework, etc.

Students in 8th grade math need to purchase a scientific calculator as soon as possible.  Any scientific calculator will work.  If you wish, your child may purchase one from school for $ 9.00.  We are able to offer this reduced price because the school has made a special purchase directly from the Sharp Company.
