Project Overview
Piscataquis Community Middle School is currently involved in an ongoing technology project which provides students with laptop computers during the school day. This has been an exciting opportunity for our school and we want to share our experiences; we just haven't had the time to put it all together! But, how would you like to be involved in a classroom where every student has fingertip access to the Internet, encyclopedias and newspapers from around the world? What do you think you could do in a classroom where every student can create great looking documents using text, sound, digital photos, video and digital or scanned artwork? You got it - you'd be way too busy to do a web page! So, while you can get the technical run down of what we have below, you might want to check out some of the press links listed at the right for more of the story. You might also want to come in and see us - you really have to see this project to believe it!
Currently, each 8th grade student has an iBook to use for the school year, the 7th grade has a classroom quantity of iBooks to share and the 5th & 6th grade students also share another classroom quantity of iBooks. All the regular classroom teachers also have their own Powerbooks as well as presentation TV's in their classrooms. All of the laptops are connected to the school network and the Internet through a wireless network.
