CONTENT STANDARD: BASIC OPERATIONS AND CONCEPTS


PERFORMANCE INDICATORS: The learner will…

1. Demonstrate basic system skills
• Turn equipment on and off correctly
• Understand basic computer terms
• Know the difference between different storage types, e.g. hard disk, floppy, CD-ROM
• Print to specific printers and know where the printers are located
• Be able to locate and access hard drives, menus, files and applications

2. Demonstrate proficient mouse skills
• Click
• Double Click
• Click and Drag
• Drag and Drop
• Shift and Click to select multiple items
• Click and Hold to use contextual menus

3. Introduce and develop proper keyboarding skills (before bad habits become ingrained)
• Understand proper keyboarding technique (no two finger typing)
• Know the Home Row
• Understand the need for proper posture
• Know the difference between the shift and the caps lock keys
• Be working towards keyboarding at a rate of 15 words per minute

4. Demonstrate basic file management skills
• Open and quit programs correctly
• Save files to: Temporary documents folder on hard drive, Floppy Disk, Server locations
• Open files from any of the above places
• Move files from one location to another
• Delete personal files


 

CONTENT STANDARD: SOCIAL, ETHICAL, AND HUMAN ISSUES


PERFORMANCE INDICATORS: The learner will…

1. Work cooperatively when using technology and take turns using available computers

2. Respect the privacy of others and their work/files

3. Demonstrate the proper care and handling of technology equipment and software
• Treat equipment properly, handle CD-ROM’s carefully
• Behave properly in the computer lab/area
• Leave computer area clean and organized for the next person
• Put files away on computer, close windows and restart computer for the next class




CONTENT STANDARD: PRODUCTIVITY TOOLS


PERFORMANCE INDICATORS: The learner will…

1. Be introduced to various components of an integrated productivity software package, (e.g. ClarisWorks for Kids™, AppleWorks™, Microsoft Office™, etc.)
• Word Processing Module
• Drawing Module
• Painting Module
• Database Module
• Spreadsheet Module
• Presentation Module

2. Use a word processing module to produce a final product
• Edit text - enter text, edit, copy, cut, paste, delete, undo
• Format text - justify text, change fonts, sizes, styles and colors, change line spacing
• Understand the difference between return and auto wrap

3. Use a drawing/painting module or program to produce a final product
• Use various tools to make shapes and objects
• Insert clip art
• Select or Deselect objects
• Resize or Reshape objects
• Change the color of objects
• Move objects

4. Use a spreadsheet module to produce a final product
• Understand that a single cell holds a single piece of information
• Fill in cells in a premade template to record data
• Change cells in a premade template to manipulate data in a premade graph

5. Use a database module to produce a final product
• Understand the basic difference between a spreadsheet and a database
• Use a premade database template to record data
• Find, edit and sort data in a premade database

6. Use a presentation module or program to develop basic multimedia projects
• Understand how several drawing pages can be put together into a slide show
• Navigate through a slide show
• Make a slide show with an introduction, body and conclusion

7. Work with a group to send email messages to other classes and groups

8. Use a web browser to access information on the Internet.



CONTENT STANDARD: TECHNOLOGY TOOLS FOR COMMUNICATION, RESEARCH, PROBLEM-SOLVING, AND DECISION-MAKING


PERFORMANCE INDICATORS: The learner will…

1. Use technology to develop and illustrate thoughts, ideas, stories and problems

2. Use email to communicate with others

3. Access, with teacher help, age-appropriate Internet based information
