BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING
MINUTES
DATE: Tuesday, September 9, 2003

Members Present: Laura Auger, Deborah Clukey, Brad Coburn, Larry Davis, Patricia Davis, Melissa Douglass, Ralph Eastman, Pam Goulette, Patricia Izbicki, Anita Kain, Donna Littlefield, Susan McAvoy, Geraldine Rizzitello, and Michelle Ward.

Members Absent:    Lorna Marshall, George Nuite, Tom Ronco, and Phyllis Watson.

Also Present:          Greg Bellemare, Sara Alberts, Crystal Priest and Paul Stearns.

Call to Order:            The meeting was called to order by Larry Davis at 7:00 P.M.

Approval of Minutes:   A motion was made by Geraldine Rizzitello and seconded by Pam Goulette that the minutes of the August 12 and August 27,2003 meetings be approved.

Public Forum:           Thelma Regan reported that school started smoothly.     

Correspondence:     Sue McAvoy read a letter written by Mr. Jordan acknowledging the heroic actions of Sierra Reed.

Patti Davis read a letter written by Mr. Stearns of acknowledgment for loyalty and good work performance by Dan Burdin.   

Educational Reports:           Sara Alberts gave a powerpoint presentation on the Local Assessment System.

1.         Adjustments to Agenda:    None

2.         Nepotism Plan:

A motion was made by Brad Coburn and seconded by Susan McAvoy that the Board of Directors endorses the Superintendent’s Nepotism Document as presented by the Student & Personnel Committee.

3.         Resignations:

A motion was made by Pam Goulette and seconded by Geraldine Rizzitello that the Board of Directors accepts the resignations submitted by Lauren Gabourel, Debra Jamo and Carole Myrick.

4.       Recommendations to Employ:

A motion was made by Pam Goulette and seconded by Melissa Douglass that the Board of Directors accepts the following recommendations to employ for the 2003-2004 school year (one year contracts):

·                     Berthe Leavitt – Yearbook (PCHS)

·                     Jeanne Griffin – National Honor Society (PCHS)

·                     June Ladd – Student Council Advisor (PCHS)

·                     Jamie Russell – Boys Varsity Basketball (PCHS)

·                     Russell Tracy – Boys J.V. Basketball (PCHS)

·                     Gary Sinclair – Girls Varsity Basketball (PCHS)

·                     Merle Gilbert – Girls J.V. Basketball (PCHS)

·                     Lorraine Stutzman – Ski Team (PCHS)

·                     Jason Brown – Fall Intramurals (PCMS)

5.         Committee Reports:

Student & Personnel Relations – Sue McAvoy reported on the social for new staff members, recognition of students and staff for excellent work.

Building & Grounds – Larry Davis reported that the committee toured the district with Mike Dexter and Dave Cotta to view the results of the summer projects.

6.         Administrative Reports:

Sara Alberts (Elementary Principal/Special Services Director reported on the following:

·                     There was a smooth start to school, at both McKusick and Guilford Primary.

·                     Various parent group activities and upcoming events and field trips were mentioned.

·                     She commented on the tremendous effort on the part of teachers in building a local assessment system.

Kevin Jordan (PCHS Principal) reported on the following:

·         The many aspects of the smooth start for PCHS

·         He wanted to thank the custodians for their excellent work.

Greg Bellemare (PCMS Principal) reported on the following:

·           The status of the new standards based assessment system.

·           Net gain of seven students.

·           Homework club has started.

·           Parent meetings have been held for grades 4, 5 and 6 and are scheduled for grades             7 & 8.

·           The school will be going outside on September 11th for a brief ceremony celebrating Patriot Day!

Crystal Priest (Technology) reported on the following:

·           Laptop rollouts and state approval of our technology plan.

7.         Chairperson's Report: None

8.         Superintendent's Report:  Superintendent Stearns discussed the following:

·           The school year had started in excellent fashion as the result of much hard work on the part of the Administrative Team, teachers and support staff.

·           He reported that he, along with Superintendent’s from SAD#46, 68 and 41 would be meeting with Education Commissioner Susan Gendron on September 10th, 2003 regarding consolidation.

·           The search for an assistant principal at PCHS has generated much interest.  Interviews will begin this week.

·           MSMA Conference will be October 23rd and 24th.

9.         Adjournment:

Motion made by Anita Kain and seconded by Brad Coburn to adjourn the meeting at 8:00 p.m.
