Membership dues for the association are $5.00. Any student who attended high school for a minimum of two years is eligible to become a member. P.C.H.S. Faculty members are also considered honorary alumni and are invited to attend the annual reunion. Dues are used to offset the cost of the meeting, newsletter mailing, and promotion. Over the years, thousands of dollars in dues money has been transferred to scholarship funding.
2006 is an election year for Alumni Officers. All Officers of the Alumni Association in accordance with the By-Laws are to be voted on at the Annual Meeting. We seek nominations for the positions of President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. A nomination form will be included with the Alumni Banquet Invitation. We strongly encourage local volunteers to make a commitment that will help the Alumni Committee strengthen its membership and meet our goal of increasing the scholarship funds for current PCHS students
We express our thanks to Superintendent Paul Stearns, and Principal Jeffrey Aronson of P.C.H.S, and their staff for their significant contributions to the goals of the Alumni Association. The coordination of the gymnasium and facilities for our annual banquet is a major task. Their assistance in helping the Alumni display the Wall of Fame Profiles is very helpful. The Wall of Fame has been a tremendous success and enjoyed by the students as well as the many visitors passing through the P.C.H.S. lobby. Thank you!
We urge all of you with access to computers to log on to www.sad4.com and check out the school web site. We also encourage you to log on to www.guilfordmaine.org and click on “River Festival”. The first Annual Piscataquis River Festival in 2005 was a great attraction. The Parade early in the morning was viewed by hundreds of area residents. The Beauty Contest was a huge hit as well as many other activities. It was an overall great day and we look forward to next year.
The Alumni Association has an annual ad in the P.C.H.S. yearbook. The Guilford Historical Society purchases the yearbook annually to add to their collection of yearbooks dating back to the early 1900’s.
In 2003 we changed our “Alumni Roll Call” format. We now post all class members on the Bleachers on large sheets by class year. Anniversary classes are introduced by their spokesperson. We encourage reunion classes to bring photos.
Anniversary classes for 2006 are all classes who graduated in a year ending with 1or 6. We know that the 1956 class will be strongly represented at the 2006 banquet. We hope to hear from other classes as time passes. We were very pleased to have the 1965 class announce a $500 a year donation from their class at the 2005 Banquet to be awarded each year The 1965 class was the largest graduating class in the history of PCHS with over 100 classmates graduating. At the 2005 banquet they had approximately 40 graduates in attendance. Several classes have separately established creative fundraising methods to accumulate a major donation to benefit scholarship funds and recipients upon their 50 th class reunion.
The attendees at the 2005 banquet were very pleased with our choice of Caterer. Perley’s Catering offers a full meal with traditional menu items of carved beef, casseroles, salads, veggie platters, hors d’oeuvres etc. A variety of hot and cold drinks, and cake will be served.
We urge you to attend, and encourage you to do whatever you can to help our alumni association grow its membership, improve scholarship funding, and be proud of our heritage.
The following is a breakdown of the current scholarship funds as June 30, 2005:
Guilford High School Memorial Scholarship Fund $30,614.35
Distribution Amounts available for Scholarships 1,743.00
Piscataquis Community High School Combined Fund $32,729.80
Distribution Amounts available for Scholarships 1,549.00
Notes: The Piscataquis Community High School Fund was COMBINED because PCHS had “dumped” funds from several different schools and individuals. The 2005 ALUMNI voted to remove those funds and to have one single Piscataquis Community High School Scholarship Fund.
Paula Brown of SAD4 (PCHS Guidance Dept.) is the point person on scholarship funds and will work with the Maine Community Foundation in Ellsworth. When the information is available, the alumni association will post the current totals in the PCHS Alumni Scholarship Fund.
We are also delighted to inform the alumni that the Maine Community Foundation has informed us that they will now accept $1000 (minimum) class scholarship funds. This means that any class who desires to donate a minimum of $1000 may have a scholarship in their class (i.e. PCHS Class of 1990) name. More information on this exciting opportunity will be forthcoming in the latter part of 2005.
We thank you for your support, and we hope to hear from more alumni and see more alumni participation as we work closely with SAD4 and the River Festival Committee in the future.

We strongly encourage local volunteers to make a commitment that will help the Alumni Committee strengthen its membership and meet our goal of increasing the scholarship funds for current PCHS students. Due to their unique position of leadership former alumni of the faculty and staff of PCHS, the Middle School, or the elementary schools would be ideal nominees. Mrs. Cleaves in the middle school has served as President, and been a member of the alumni committee for 18 years.
We express our thanks to Principal Kevin Jordan of P.C.H.S, and his predecessor Bruce Lindbergh and their staff for their significant contributions to the goals of the Alumni Association. The coordination of the gymnasium and facilities for our annual banquet is a major task. Their assistance in helping the Alumni display the Wall of Fame Profiles is very helpful. We urge all of you with access to computers to log on to www.sad4.com and check out the school web site. You will have the opportunity to read a letter from the Superintendent of Schools, Paul Stearns to the State Board of Education concerning consolidation. I was pleased to learn that PCHS Eleventh Graders finished 22nd out of 133 high schools. Per dollar invested in the school system, PCHS has the most efficient school system in the State of Maine . You will also read about two teenagers from Sangerville who saved the life of another person in a burning automobile. The information on the site is comprehensive and kept up to date frequently.
The Alumni Association has an annual ad in the P.C.H.S. yearbook. The Guilford Historical Society purchases the yearbook annually to add to their collection of yearbooks dating back to the early 1900's.
At the banquet in 2003 we changed our “Alumni Roll Call” format. In previous years we went year by year for all the alumni, having them stand and announce their names etc. It was time consuming and took from 45-60 minutes. In 2003 we had large sheets by class year with all the members of the class listed, and placed on the wall of bleacher seats. It was a big hit. Alumni congregated along the wall and recognized many names. When the Roll Call began, the President drew attention to the names and classes. The anniversary classes were individually introduced by their spokesperson. Before and after the banquet, members of the alumni were chatting and socializing with friends they had not seen in years.
Anniversary classes for 2004 are all classes who graduated in a year ending with 4 or 9. We know that the 1954 and 1959 class will be strongly represented at the 2004 banquet. We hope to hear from other classes as time passes. We were very pleased to have the 1953 class make a major donation in excess of $2,500 to the Scholarship Fund in 2003. The 1957 and 1958 classes have separately established creative fundraising methods to accumulate a major donation to benefit scholarship funds and recipients upon their 50 th class reunion.
Since August 2003 the Alumni Wall of Fame in the P.C.H.S. lobby has featured many former families and graduates. The Tom and Pam Goulette family, Jeff Peters, Nicole Goulette, the Pulkinen Family of Guilford, and the Foss Family of Parkman. Several more families are to be profiled in the coming months. The Martels, Curtis, Huff and Grant families are currently working on profiles of their families. We invite you to participate.
In 2004 we will once again have an Alumni Golf Scramble at Piscataquis Country Club on the morning of Saturday, July 31 st . Last year we raised $520 for the Scholarship Fund. We had a lot of fun and prizes. If possible we may schedule additional events the same day, which will be publicized in the Piscataquis Observer in the weeks preceding the Banquet.
We have been approached on several occasions about shifting the banquet to various other locations. However, after reviewing the cost for meals, travel, entertainment and other amenities, the alumni committee has ruled out locations in Dexter, Newport , Monson and Greenville . The American Legion Hall in Guilford, the Masonic Hall in Guilford, the Town Hall in Abbot and several restaurants have all been utilized by various classes in the past. We hope that your class will be able to attend our annual banquet and reserve a private location for a continued party later that evening if you desire.
The attendees at the 2003 banquet were very pleased with our choice of Caterer. Perley's Catering will offer a full meal with traditional menu items of carved beef, casseroles, salads, veggie platters, hors d'oeuvres etc. A variety of hot and cold drinks, and cake will be served.
