Cambridge Student Selected

Stephanie Watson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Watson of Cambridge, has been selected as a member of the Spirit of America National Honor Band 2000 for its Annual Performing Tour of Europe.

Stephanie was chosen on a basis of maturity, performance, and the ability to represent the best of American youth. The Spirit of America National Honor Band will tour and perform in Luxembourg, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Germany, France, and Belgium. They will also perform for the diplomatic community as well as for thousands of people in Geneva, Switzerland of the Fourth of July at a celebration hosted by the American Club of Geneva. Stephanie will join other selected students from across the United States, rehearse for five days, then fly to Europe for fourteen days of touring and performing.

Stephanie is a member of the Piscataquis Community High School Bands, directed by Lawrence Wescott. Stephanie is a junior at P.C.H.S. in Guilford. She is a honor student, and a member of the Field Hockey and Softball teams. Stephanie has also been active in Student Government, and the Chess Club, she volunteers at the Abbie Fowler School in Sangerville and has been involved in many Community Events. Stephanie will be raising a major portion of her expenses herself. The Spirit of America National Honor Band is directed by George Naff, former conductor of the Duke University Wind Symphony and the East Carolina University Marching, Concert, and Jazz Bands. George and Sue Naff and the Spirit Staff are now in their 23rd year taking bands overseas.
