21st CENTURY COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTER
The 21St Century Community Learning Center in S.A.D. #4, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, provides a wide variety of after-school, vacation and summer programs.
Summer Adventure Program
(JULY 10-28)
The Summer Adventure Program provides a three-week fun-filled educational experience for K-6 students. Students participate in four one-hour activities each day. Each group of fifteen students will be involved in the YMCA Swim Program, utilize the new computer labs, participate in a reading activity and engage in one of the fine arts: dance, art or music. Special events include a fun day at Peakes-Kenney State Park, a Summer Carnival and guest artists. Transportation and breakfast / lunch are provided
Outdoor Adventure
The Outdoor Adventure Program is over night camping and hiking experiences for 5th and 6th grade students enrolled in the Summer Adventure Program. Students plan their camping experience, learn to cook meals and erect tents.
The culminating experience is an overnight campout with hiking and swimming on Mt. Desert Island. The school nurse participates in the program.
Swim Lessons
The Summer Adventure Program, in partnership with the YMCA, provides a three-week progressive swim program. Students are provided instruction by certified lifeguards at the YMCA pool in Dover-Foxcroft. The students are transported by bus from the Summer Adventure Program location to the YMCA.
Kindergarten Camp
Have a positive first experience with school at our one-week Pre-Kindergarten Camp. Students will have their first experiences with riding a bus, working with other children and learning basic routines in a stress - free environment. Transportation and meals are provided.
Summer Reading Academy
(June 19 - 29)
The Summer Reading Academy provides accelerated instruction in reading development for students in grades I - 6 who need additional reading experiences. Students are provided direct reading instruction in the Early Success Program (grades I -2) or the Soar to Success Program (grades 3 - 6).
The Summer Reading Academy provides an individual program in small groups from 9:00 - 12:00. Students will utilize computers and physical activities to reinforce the reading experience. Parents will be contacted to encourage their children's participation.
