SAD #4 Board of Director's Long Range Plan
As part of our desire to keep the citizens of School Administrative District #4 informed of our progress in developing a long range education plan, the Board of Directors issues the folloing statement.

S.A.D. #4 is faced with the following challenges:

Challenge #1 - To improve the quality of education for all students while achieving the goals of Maine' Learning Results.

Challenge #2 - To accomplish the first challenge while making the necessary adjustments in facilities and staffing caused by continued declining enrollments.

Challenge #3 - To develop solutions to the first two challenges within the framework of a long range educational plan.

Such a long range plan, by its very nature, must be adaptive and flexible enough to succeed in an ever changing environment. It must also be dedicated to providing all of our children with the very best education we can. To this end, it is considered the Board of Directors that while we must move quickly, we must also be prudent and thoughful. Therefore:

Because of the importance of any decisions related to facilities and program adjustments, the Board will most likely place those issues before the voters this coming fall. Any school restructuring which may result in school closures will most likely be in 2002.

Between now and then, the Board will make its plans available to the public. We will conduct additional public forums, meet the selectmen and other interested parties to explain and discuss the long range plan.
