Piscataquis Community High School, Dexter Regional High School and Penquis Valley High School have received video conferencing equipment to serve as validation sites for a new statewide network. $110,00 cost per site is funded through a state technology bond issue passed in 1995. The monthly fiber optic access fee of $2,075 is reimbursed at 80% through the federal E-rate discount and a $358 per month subsidy from the Maine School and Library Network. The monthly cost to S.A.D. #4 is $57 and an annual cost of $684. In addition, the system provides high-speed interest connections for PCHS and PCMS. S.A.D. #4 Superintendent of Schools stated that "the distance learning center will allow students to access expanded educational opportunities in the advanced sciences, math, and foreign language." It is expected that the system will enable businesses, community groups and staff to attend conferences without having to leave the district. Pblic demonstration will be scheduled after the initial validation is completed. |
