Subject: NEW Brochures!!!
Greetings All,
We are changing the way we communicate our free workshops
to you. We have moved from flyers sent to your schools, to e-mails with
attachments and finally to the web. All the flyers will now be posted
on our local web site. We will send out an e-mail with an URL that will
take you directly to the web to view a brochure. Once there you can print
the page for your convenience and with a click of a button you can register
on-line for the event. I hope this process will get information to you
in a more timely fashion, send less clutter across your desks, and save
money that can be used for other resources for educators.
If you should have any difficulty, please contact us at
778-7561 or kristin.hickey@maine.edu.
Below you will find the websites for our latest brochures.
We look forward to hearing from you and will appreciate your feedback
on this NEW technique.

ACTEM is partnering with MarcoPolo to offer have free Internet
Content for the Classroom training opportunities for people who would
like to become trainers with the expectation that they go back to their

focusing on lesson plan development using the Internet. To find out more

What is Marco Polo? Marco Polo is a foundation that provides
no-cost, standards-based Internet content for the K-12 teachers and their
classrooms, developed by the nation's content experts. Online resources
include panel-reviewed links to top sites in many disciplines, professionally
developed lesson plans, classroom activities, and materials to help with
daily classroom planning, and powerful search engines. All this with no
advertising! Check out their web site at: http://marcopolo.worldcom.com/
Marco Polo Training ACTEM (Association of Computer Technology
Educators in Maine) is sponsoring free Marco Polo trainings to train teachers
who will in turn train the other teachers in their buildings on ways to
Integrate the Internet with their curriculum. To view the site go to
http://marcopolo.worldcom.com/, to apply for free MarcoPolo training
for your school or district and click on apply for free training on the
left side of the page. Just fill in the form and I will be in touch with
you to finalize scheduling the training. There are two types available.
The first, "Train the Trainer", is to train people who would
in turn go back to their buildings and train the other teachers there.
The second is where we send in a field trainer (another teacher from the
area) to train the teachers in your building. This is called an "end
user" or "field training" which simply means the participants
are planning to use it for themselves and not formally share it with others.
The could share it but it is not an expectation of the training.
In the first model, the "Train the Trainer",
we need a school that would be willing to let us use their lab for a day
(this can even be a Saturday if we can get the teachers). The lab needs
to have at least 18 Internet ready machines running either Netscape 4+
or Internet Explorer 4+. In this training each school building is allowed
only one or two teachers so we would have to get some teachers to attend
from surrounding towns. I would arrange to have a trainer sent in. This
type requires a 45-day window to setup the training. Materials would be
sent to the school. We also need to have at least 15 participants and
all participants are expected to go back to their buildings and share
the resource. This training requires 5 to 6 hours not counting lunch.
For "end user" or field training" model, we need
a school that would be willing to let us use their lab for a day (this
can even be a Saturday if we can get the teachers) or a half-day. This
training can be done in two or three 2 hr sessions after school. The lab
needs to have at least 10 Internet ready machines running either Netscape
4+ or Internet Explorer 4+. This training is designed to work with the
teachers from one district or building so there is no limit to the number
each can send but we want at least 10 teachers.

Subject: MacLeadership 2002 - A few seats left
MacLeadership - Since 1990 -
Our 13th year Mastering your Macintosh Integrating Technology
into your Classroom and School
July 8-12, 2002
Each summer the Yarmouth School Department sponsors a Macintosh
computer institute for educators throughout the northeast. The focus of
MacLeadership is to help professionals use technology to improve teaching
and learning. To that end, MacLeadership will take you beyond simply learning
to use software.
The format for MacLeadership has changed to better foster
technology integration. Based upon the Apple Teacher Institutes, Macleadership
2002 will consist of one day of hands-on instruction, a day and a half
of various sessions to build your skills in applications, equipment and
software, and two days of team project work with the immediate, hands-on
instruction you'll need to assist your team in completing a project of
your own design which you can use in your classroom or school. Teams can
be teachers from the same district or any group of participants with similar
interests.
The final afternoon will feature a "gallery walk" during
which all teams will be able to see the projects of the other teams. There
will also be informal opportunities to learn about wireless networks,
saving to servers, Mac OSX, and Mac OSX server.
For more information:
http://www.yarmouth.k12.me.us/Technology/MacLead.html
Apple Computer and other vendors will update you on the
newest technologies. MacLeadership 2002 is an opportunity to send a collaborative
group such as a team of science teachers, a group working on an assessment
for a district, or a seventh grade team wanting to learn how to improve
teaching and learning with the technology from the Maine Learning Technology
Endowment.
Yarmouth has wireless networks in all buildings and uses
airport equipped iBooks to access our network from anywhere in the district.
We are offering special rates for teams from the same district, but all
the team member names must be on each registration form and all forms
must be in the same envelope. People taking MacLeadership for Graduate
Credit are not eligible for team discounts.
The Site of MacLeadership and its Instructors: The Frank
Harrison Middle School in Yarmouth is a state-of-the-art technology center
with new Macintosh iMac and iBook hardware, OS X Servers, updated software,
and an extended fiber network system which links classrooms, the labs,
the library, the office areas, and other buildings within the district
and the Internet.
For this institute, there will be over 100 iMac and iBook
computers, scanners, digital cameras, and other hardware.
Instructors include the Yarmouth technology team: Cathy
Wolinsky (K-4 Coordinator and National Semiconductor Global Connections
trainer), John Martin (5-8 Coordinator and Presidential Technology Award
winner), Alice Barr (9-12 Coordinator and National Semiconductor Global
Connections trainer) and Larry Frazier (K-12 Coordinator and Apple Distinguished
Educator). Other instructors and vendors will join us during the week.
